Indian media’s new strategy for regional news

News organisations in India have a new strategy, to create regional websites with more robust and diverse content.
The new website is called India, a digital initiative that will help them in developing a local news website and other regional websites, which are not part of a national news media company, said A.S. Krishnan, the managing director and CEO of India.
The first regional website will be launched on Wednesday, he said, adding that it will feature more news, entertainment and other digital content.
While the region websites will be focused on the core regional news, which is widely read by the average person, it will be possible to also add other news and entertainment and news and business and finance websites, he added.
In a bid to improve coverage of the region, the Indian government will also set up a team that will provide regional news to various media companies and to provide digital content for these, Krishnan said.
A number of regional news organisations have already launched their websites and have been successful, he told reporters.
Krishnan said that this initiative would help regional news organizations to expand their local news offerings and make them available to users across the country.
The website will have a unique user interface that will allow users to easily navigate around and discover news sources, he further said.
“This will enable the websites to become a real hub for information about regional news.
It will enable them to gain additional coverage of local issues,” he said.
