The WSL finals are a week away, and the WSL is looking to put the finishing touches on its first season.
The WSL final is expected to take place in San Diego on Friday, with a match between the Western Sydney Wanderers and the Western Bulldogs scheduled for Saturday.
The game, which will feature the top two teams from each of the four divisions, will kick off at 4pm (AEST) with the first match between Adelaide United and Perth Glory set to be broadcast live on ABC Sports and TV3.
The final is being promoted by the Australian Women’s Soccer League (AWSL) and the AFL, which has partnered with the WSA on the broadcast rights, and will be broadcast on AFL Network.
The first WSL game will take place at a neutral site in Sydney.
“It’s going to be the most exciting thing in the WNSL,” WSL President and CEO Julie Andrews said.
“We’re excited to have the opportunity to see the top teams in the Western and Eastern divisions compete for an opportunity to win the inaugural WSL title.”
The first game of the season, whether it’s in Sydney or Perth, will be an absolute thrill for fans and a tremendous opportunity for us to build our brand.
“The finals will be played at Adelaide Oval in the WA capital.”
I can’t wait to see how the fans will react,” Andrews said, “the fans will come from around the country and I think they’re going to go absolutely wild.
“The WNSSL will be competing against six Western and eight Eastern sides and a Western derby winner.
The Eastern and Western sides will each have one additional team, with each team having two matches.”
That’s the challenge we’ve set out to solve,” Andrews told ESPN’s Christine O’Dowd.”
To make sure that we get a top-class competition that is going to deliver a high-quality match, a high standard of play, a quality game.
“There will be four women’s national teams in action in the finals, with four teams representing the Western, Eastern and Central divisions.”
And then to go and play Adelaide and go into the game as the only Western team and the only team in the division that is coming back is a huge accomplishment.”WSL season: PreviewThe WSA will be playing in its first full season after launching in January. “
We’ve had a great season and the fact that we’ve made the finals is a fantastic accomplishment.”

It will be exciting,” Andrews confirmed.”
This year is going be really exciting.
We’ve been able to create an identity for the WLS and I’m really looking forward to what’s to come.
“The Western Bulldogs and Western Derby winner Adelaide United are expected to win both of their matches, but a clash between Adelaide and Western Bulldogs rivals Melbourne Victory could also feature.”
What we’re trying to do is bring the best of what we’ve got in terms of a top level of play to the WTS,” Andrews explained.”
If you look at the last few years, we’ve played two matches and one derby.
“There’s no question we have a really good game and a great product, and we’re excited that we’re finally going to get the opportunity.”WSL will also be playing a derby winner and we want to see some of the best players in the game in the same division, and that’s what we’re looking forward in terms and the finals.
“There’s a lot of excitement around the WST.”AAP/ABC
