(AP) Alabama and Auburn combined for three straight wins, giving the Crimson Tide its first SEC tour victory since 2009 and a 5-0 start to the SEC West.
The Tide (12-3, 8-2) had its way in the opening quarter, outscoring Auburn (7-8, 2-7) 41-0 to take the lead with 3:02 remaining in the first half.
Auburn drove to a 49-yard touchdown run with 5:04 left in the half and took a 10-7 lead into halftime.
Alabama then took a 27-6 lead into the locker room.
The Tide answered with a 3-yard run with 9:01 remaining and then led 24-13 with 6:07 left in regulation.
The Tigers took a 17-3 lead in the second quarter, and Alabama scored on a 10 and went to overtime.
But the Tide was never able to rally from its deficit, as Auburn rallied from its biggest deficit of the game with 1:09 left in overtime.
Alabama’s last lead was 27-21 with 3 minutes left in OT.
The Tigers scored a season-high 44 points in the third quarter to give the Tide a 21-17 lead.
Alabama responded with two consecutive scores and a 17 on downs, and Auburn’s final score was 17-13.
Alabama was led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, who completed 21 of 26 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns.
Auburn’s Ryan Switzer threw for 165 yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Jordan Lynch rushed for 98 yards and two scores.
The teams combined for five sacks, including Hurts with five, and three interceptions.
